Some extremely sad news has taken over fans of the JAV industry, something I thought I wouldn’t see so soon. After 14 years of hard work, actress Kana Yume has announced that she will be retiring from the industry.
In a post on her Twitter, Kana Yume begins with “To all my dear fans, thank you for always supporting me, I, Jun Mizukawa (formerly known as Kana Yume), will be retiring from acting in AVs in July, on the 14th anniversary of my debut.”
“I was able to work hard until this point thanks to everyone who supported me at my agency, everyone involved, and my fans, I am very grateful.”
Previously, Kana Yume had closed her Twitter profile, and her new movies were no longer being released as before, so fans had been expecting her to retire for a while.
She revealed that she has not been filming any new movies since last year! And there will still be films coming out in the coming months, but they were all filmed last year. She said she has already left her agency:
“I apologize for the sudden announcement. I am truly grateful for these 14 years since my debut in 2011. I have already left my agency and finished filming the last films last year. I think my last film will be released in the summer or fall.”
Let’s take a look back at Kana Yume’s career.
Debuting in July 2011, under the Maxing label and using the name Kana Yume, she quickly gained prominence for her boldness and willingness to explore content that many avoided.
After working exclusively for a studio, Jun opted for the freedom of freelance work, which allowed her to explore a wider variety of roles and experiences. For a period, she signed with the Dahlia studio, using the name Jun Mizukawa — the name by which she would become better known — although she herself considered this phase to be “forgettable.”
The actress has always stood out for her frankness and for accepting challenges that required dedication and courage, including participating in productions with more intense themes, which made her an iconic figure for many fans.
Below is the cover of her first film:
Now, at 31 years old (she debuted in AV at just 18), Jun feels that the time has come to take a break. According to her, “something has changed”, and the current industry scenario no longer allows for the same boldness and creative freedom as in the days of groups like Ebisu Muscats. Although she did not reveal any concrete plans for the future, Jun mentioned that she wants to “go in a new direction” — which could involve appearances in traditional media or behind-the-scenes roles.
